Rainbow Dash, the pegasus with a serious need for speed... and rainbows.
I don't know whether they did it intentionally or not, but endowing the one tomboy with a rainbow in her name and her very hair has implications. But the Internet doesn't love her any less. She seems to be constantly shifting between ridiculously adorable and obnoxiously "radical" and I can't exactly say she's my favorite.
Went with the sports routine because her human equivalent would probably be more into sports than actual flight, or she's just training to become a jet fighter pilot, you decide.
It's considered a joke because it actually is funny... Sure, woman deserve equal chances, but a lot of those feminists are just discriminating men and that's where it starts getting hypocrite and funny.
Why don't woman often become construction workers? It's a job only done by men, how SEXIST is that!? Well, that's because women actually don't usually qualify for construction workers and if a man who applies for the same spot can perform better then of course the guy gets hired. Gee, thinking you should get a job just because you're female, now THAT's sexist!
Did they raise a stink over one of the Care Bears having a rainbow on his belly? How about Rainbow Brite? Or is it the fact that Rainbow Dash happens to be a tomboy that gets people up in arms? I guess that means all tomboys are secretly lesbians, then.
See where I'm getting with this? People take too much offense when they shouldn't and I think we should be glad show like this are even allowed to exist, since I'm sure some feminists would love to have this show pulled for 'being offensive to lesbians', or BS like that.
Anyway, I like Rainbow Dash and all that doesn't take away the fact that this pic is well-made.

I'd say no because the entire issue about sexuality and the symbolize around it hadn't reached it peak yet. No one really care about it back in the 80s because at least back then, whenever someone saw a rainbow in a kids show, they just assumed that it was there for the kids without any sort of other symbolize. I think the shit hit the fan when Telebubbies came out and the sight of a PURPLE, male character with a triangle for as a symbol and purse really got people in arms. To this day, I don't understand it and I don't care but in the wake of this and other things, people will assume that ONE symbol will mean ties to some group all the while forgetting that said symbol existed way before certain groups took it on.
Haha, I remember that little clash between Faust and MS magazine. What a crock of shit that article was. It seemed as if they were desperately trying to find hidden messages such as in the fact that Celestria's guards were black. Oh noes, black ponies in a universe full of coloured ponies? It must be subjugation of black people!
Oh, it should be noted that Faust settled the dispute with MS magazine, and as far as I know, MS magazine has issued a sincere apology after they actually watched the damn thing.
That aside, I was just being a politically incorrect bastard and silly by insinuating something that (almost) everyone is thinking. I'm fairly optimistic that most people know it's in good fun: aside from a few batshit crazy lesbians that take it too seriously.

too much sex and violence
A rainbow was used long before the LGBT community even pretty much existed (or at the very least, was acknowledged) and associating one with the other made one particular feminist openly exclaim that Lauren Faust is racist and mocking the LGBT community.
