Alright, I'll admit, I'm bitten by the My Little Pony bug that is running rampant among cartoon enthusiasts.
I always hated My Little Pony (in the lightest sense of the word), not because "it's for girls, you dummy", but because it doesn't hold itself up except for that one premise. While shows from the 80s were generally awful when not viewed through nostalgia goggles, they at least managed to entertain the audience at large. I guess that perhaps my biggest problem with the show was, and still is, that it ended up being a big insult to girls. While shows aimed at boys also tend to attract girls, this show was sitting there, taunting girls with it's girlyness: don't worry, this mindless drivel is for you
. To make my point, while Care Bears was far from being my favorite show, it could stand watching it.
With the new incarnation of the franchise, that has changed. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has proven that you can make a girly show that is actually, dare I say it, entertaining
. It has everything I look for in a good show: character driven plots, good writing, an expansive universe, and well animated. That the color spectrum is a bit on the bright side becomes virtually irrelevant.
So this is most likely going to result into an Artrix's take on because it's just so much fun to convert these ponies into human beings.
Starting with Rarity because I suppose I really like that curly hair. Was supposed to be a simple warm up but ended up being pretty finished except for the obvious inking and coloring. Enjoy.
